Jayanti & Baxa




Jayanti:  One of the main attractions of North Bengal and Doors is Jayanti. You will certainly get to see elephant, monkey, peacock, various types of birds, python etc. The place is also famous for jangle safari. Jayanti hill is the last part of Himalayas which is called siwalicks. You will get awesome look from the river bed where one part is surrounded by Jayanti hill and another part with deem forest. There are few hotels at the bank of river bed. It is strongly recommended to spend in this place at any full moon night.
Baxa:  Baxa is famous for Baxa fort. It was a 2nd (After cellular Jail in Andaman) high security prison and detention camp for the freedom fighters of Yugantar dall and Anusilan Samily during British period. The fort is surrounded by high hills which was natural barrier for the revolutionaries to escape from the place. Now a day this point is famous for various short trekking routes for the nature lovers. Few trekking routes are
       1)  Santalabari to Baxa Fort ( 5 KM)
       2)  Baxa Fort to Lepchakha ( 2 KM)
       3)  Baxa Fort to Rovers Point (4 KM)
       4)  Baxa Fort to Roopang Valley (14 KM)
       5)  Baxa Fort to Chunabhati (4KM)

The place is also famous for different varieties of birds. Around more than 665 different varieties of birds are found here and some of them are now endangered species. Tribals of hilly areas like dukpa, lama etc reside here.

How to reach (Jayanti):  The jayati is arround 34 KM from Alipurduar Town ( Nearest town). You can hire vehicle to reach there. Special permission is needed at Rajabhatkhawa to enter in the forest. Vehicle charge (Rs 250/- per Vehicle) has to be paid and separate entry pass (Rs 60 /- per head) have to be obtained from Rajabhatkhawa check post. Enjoy the journey through deem forest of Baxa tiger reserve (BTR).


How to reach (Baxa):  One can get to Santalabari which is around 18 KM from Rajabhatkhawa. Onwards no vehicle will be available. Baxa fort is 5 KM apart from santalabari which has to be covered by foot only. The road is rocky so it is strongly recommended to carry good quality shoe. As one has to move upward direction one is also recommended to carry water also and take rest after regular interval.
